John earned his BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, (one of the oldest art colleges in the country), and went on to earn his MFA from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. John has been recognized by his peers and by the professional community on multiple occasions; his work has appeared in Communication Arts, Graphis, and the Society of Illustrators annual exhibition in New York. John's professional career has focused on a variety of illustration forums: editorial, book, advertising, and institutional. He has worked with many well-known clients including American Airlines, Random House, Pentagram Design, San Diego Zoo/Wildlife Park, Playboy, Smart Money Magazine, and U.S. News and World Report.
Today, John works primarily with editorial and book clients. John's current work captures the warmth and feel of traditional painting that many do not associate with digital art. This style is reminiscent of several early 20th century painters and illustrators whom he continues to be influenced by — N.C. Wyeth, Maxfield Parrish, Edward Hopper, and Rockwell Kent. John is influenced perhaps even more by such well-known contemporary illustrators as Mark English, Bernie Fuchs, Bart Forbes, Gary Kelley, and C.F.Payne. |
